Sustainable Renton is seeking a motivated Food Justice Assistant Manager to support our community food programs. This position involves organizing weekly food sorting sessions, recruiting and managing volunteers, coordinating gleaning and deliveries, and ensuring that our food justice initiatives run smoothly.
Job Duties
Volunteer Management and Recruitment
- Engage volunteers online, in the community, and through creative outreach strategies
- Coordinate volunteer schedules using scheduling apps
- Communicate with volunteers via email, phone, messaging platforms, and in-person events
Food Sorting and Organization
- Participate in weekly food sorting (Mondays and Wednesdays, 3–5 PM)
- Assist with cleanup at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church after sorting
- Maintain and organize sorting and refrigeration areas
Gleaning and Delivery Support
- Cover gleaning pick-ups and deliveries as needed
- Drive organizational van to pick-up locations
- Deliver food to partner organizations
- Stock and organize community free pantries
Qualifications
Time Management
- Part-time position (10–15 hours per week, both on-site and remote)
- Flexibility to cover driving shifts and pick-ups as needed
Organization and Leadership
- Strong organizational skills, especially in coordinating and supporting volunteers
- Enjoys working collaboratively with volunteers and community members
Requirements
- Smartphone required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Clean driving record preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 per week
