SUMMARY:Double-feature documentary film screening Ren Faire & Burning Man
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating & informative double-feature film screening of 2 unique american subcultures - Ren Faire & Burning Man. "Faire an American Renaissance" will be screened first at 6:00 followed by a director Q&A. "Journey to the Flames: 11 Years of Burning Man" will be screened at 8:30 again followed by a director Q&A. There are rumors of local cocktails as well...\n\n\n\nFAIRE: AN AMERICAN RENAISSANCE\n\n\n	This documentary explores the amazing true story of a community that sparked a worldwide phenomenon. In 1963\, from a small field on Haskels Rascals Ranch in Los Angeles\, an event known as the "Renaissance Pleasure Faire" was born as a class project by a history teacher. From a school yard fundraiser\, Ron and Phylis Patterson took a weekend event and turned it into a worldwide phenomenon. In the years since\, movements blossoming from the Faire include street performance\, handmade arts & crafts\, and living history scenarios which were all given new life. Some 45 years later\, Faire as it is affectionately known\, touches the lives of millions of people a year as attendees\, booth owners\, and performers. Recently struggling to redefine itself \, the Faire now competes with the Internet\, Raves\, and Burning Man. The documentary follows the incredible and insightful journey of a quirky group of people that defined a uniquely American movement. Join the original participants as they share their stories and struggle to find their place in a changing world.\n\n	\n\n	JOURNEY TO THE FLAMES: 11 YEARS OF BURNING MAN\n\n	\n	\n	See 11 Years of playa art\, mutant vehicles\, theme camps\, temples\, explosions and flames. No other documentary covers it all like this. For one week every year\, 50\,000 people gather in the Black Rock desert to build a temporary city of art. Founded as an experiment in radical self-expression\, Burning Man is like no other place on earth. The ground rules are simple: no commerce\, leave no trace\, no spectators - participants only. You bring what you need to survive\, and your gift of participation and art. Black Rock City\, as it is called\, has everything you would expect in a real city: a post office\, airport\, radio stations\, newspapers\, a caf \, recycling\, police\, fire and medical. Director Doug Jacobson follows a group of friends as they head off to the desert festival. Experience 11 years of amazing Burning Man art. Take a ride into the madness and discover a world of art\, sexuality\, music and fire... lots of fire.
