In addition to his roles as an instructor and coach for the Washington State Leadership Academy, Dr. Gene Sharratt directs the Washington State University Superintendent Certification program and is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, College of Education at Washington State University. His research and writing interests are in leadership and student learning.
Prior to joining Washington State University, Gene was a 30-year public and private school educator, serving in the roles of teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, school superintendent, and educational service district superintendent. This experience spanned Washington, Alaska, and Norway.
Gene is the author of the inspirational book, Keeping on Your Feet, and also of numerous articles in professional and research journals. His B.A. and Ph.D. were earned from Washington State University, and his M.A. from Pacific Lutheran University.
In 1991, he was named Washington State Superintendent of the Year. Gene and his wife Carol live in Cle Elum, and have two grown children, Sarah and Cayle.
