FREE CLASS FOR STREET FOOD VENDORS: 

The goal is to educate vendors and promote safe food handling. Food safety protects everyone: the customers of an unlicensed vendor today could be my customers, or yours, tomorrow.

After everything I have been through, I decided it is better to help these vendors get educated and licensed, the same way those of us who followed the rules had to, than to fight against them. As President of Immigrant Lives Matter, I want to support hardworking people of every background. I have seen more and more people starting food stands, and I do not want anyone facing fines or other serious consequences simply because no one explained the process to them.

Since 2024, I have seen a significant increase in vendors operating without permits, including many former employees of established food businesses. They found a way to sell, but never learned the legal process behind it.

I know how demanding that process is. I built my food truck business the right way: L&I, Health Department, fire, and city inspections, licenses, permits, a commissary, and insurance.

I have also seen licensed trucks lose private party and catering work to unlicensed vendors who charge less. At large events, I have seen vendors hired without verification of a commissary or full permits. My concern is public health: food prepared without inspections or a commissary puts customers at risk.

That is why the message of this class is simple and firm: if you want to sell food, you must have your permits, your Fire Department inspection, and a licensed commissary - not a house or an office. We will walk vendors through the process step by step, including where they can and cannot park or set up their businesses.
