Description

Nov 8: 1. So You Want to Start a Nonprofit?
Our community has many compassionate, motivated people who think about how they can address society's problems.  One of the options is to start a tax-exempt nonprofit organization.  If you're considering founding your own nonprofit, this is the class for you.  We'll cover what a nonprofit is; what alternatives there are for creating social good, and the steps to take before you finalize your decision.  This is the first in a four-part series exploring what it takes to start a nonprofit and be ready to raise funds to keep the organization sustainable.

Nov 22: 2. Starting a Nonprofit
Have you decided to start a nonprofit, but aren't sure what the first steps are? This ninety-minute workshop by Dr. Angela Beard of the Fundraising Academy at the City University of Seattle will take you through the administrative, legal and financial tasks necessary to put you in business serving your community.  Learn interactively about creating your mission statement, building a board, writing your by-laws and articles of incorporation, and much, much more!

This workshop builds on the content presented in our 11/8 workshop "Is Starting a Nonprofit Right For You?" Attending that workshop is recommended, but not required. Can't attend live?  Email info@gorenton.com for a recording and watch it on your own time!

Dec 6: 3. Is your new nonprofit ready to fundraise?
You?ve successfully started a nonprofit organization.  Now you need funding to support the work! Will you ask for contributions? What needs to be in place to raise money legally and successfully?  Dr. Angela Beard offers this workshop on assessing fundraising readiness and the steps you need to take to be in good shape to start a fundraising effort, including a culture of philanthropy and the six areas crucial to success.  Join us on November 22!

Dec 13: 4.Starting a grant-seeking program
Public and private grants are often perceived as quick, easy money for supporting your nonprofit.  Not so! Setting up and maintaining a grant-seeking program at your agency means having several elements in place to support your success.  Join Dr. Angela Beard on December 6 for a comprehensive discussion on grant-seeking readiness and tips to help you be ready to start your search for grant funding.
