Position:
​Renton Technical College (RTC), located southeast of Seattle, provides career training, retraining, academic education, basic studies preparation and continuing education courses for those seeking marketable job skill or personal enrichment. ​This part-time, 18 hour per week, classified position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Financial Services. The cashier is primarily responsible for receiving funds in payment of tuition and other charges, recording monetary transactions, verifying daily records/receipts, preparing daily bank deposits, and adhering to college cash management processes. Work hours are 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and are adjusted during summer quarter and peak registration periods. Summer 2017 hours: 11:45 am - 4:15 pm from July to September. This position is schedule to begin upon selection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive cash, checks, and/or credit cards in payment of tuition and other fees.
  • Assist with implementation of the Student Tuition Easy Payment Plan (STEPP).
  • Record all Renton Technical College (RTC) tuition and other revenue in the internal computerized financial management system (FMS) and balance each batch.
  • Prepare and issue computerized receipts for all transactions. In the event of the FMS system going down, receipts will be generated manually and entered into the FMS system, when it is restored.
  • Process web registration credit card activity on a daily basis.
  • Distribute payroll, work study, financial aid, and other checks.
  • Maintain records of cash deposits and perform other filing as necessary.
  • Balance cash drawer, and the college change fund, at the end of each shift.
  • Assist with daily deposits from various campus departments. Maintain and enforce security procedures, including service order tracking, to ensure safety of funds.
  • Provide change to customers, and campus departments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with cash management processes
  • Assist with work overload during peak registration periods.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, using tact, discretion and courtesy, with students, co-workers, college employees, and outside agencies at all times. Provide excellent customer service, and use problem solving skills, to resolve issues and relay campus information.
​Required Knowledge, skills and responsibilities:
  • ​Demonstrated participation with person from divers backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment of an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • High school graduate or equivalent and three years of general office experience including two years of cash handling experience. Advanced technical training in administrative procedures or accounting  may substitute on a month for month basis for up to one year of the required experience.
  • Ability to learn about the courses and programs offered by RTC to facilities proper collection of tuition and fees.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a 10-key calculator.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, specifically experience creating and editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Previous success learning new computer software programs / platforms is requred.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Successful experience using tact, discretion and courtesy while interacting with all persons.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintain accurate records, managing multiple tasks and planning and organizing work in order to  meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner.
  • Bilingual skills strongly preferred.
